Vaughan — Woodbridge, Maple, Thornhill, Kleinburg — is home to some of the finest hand-knotted Persian and Oriental rugs in the GTA. These rugs are investments, often worth thousands of dollars, and they should never be cleaned the same way as a machine-made synthetic.
Why Fine Rugs Need Specialist Care
Natural dyes must be tested before washing — the wrong detergent or water temperature makes colours bleed.
Wool needs pH-balanced solutions; harsh chemicals strip lanolin and leave fibre brittle.
Hand-knotted foundations hold dust deep inside — dusting before washing is essential, not optional.
Fast machine drying can shrink and warp a hand-made rug; climate-controlled drying protects its shape.
Our Process for Persian and Oriental Rugs
Every fine rug we receive at our Vaughan facility is inspected and photographed, dye-tested, thoroughly dusted, washed gently with fibre-appropriate solutions, rinsed until the water runs clear, centrifuged, and dried flat in a controlled room. Fringes are cleaned by hand. The result is a rug with its colours revived — not scrubbed thin.
How Often Should a Persian Rug Be Washed?
Every 1–3 years depending on traffic. Between washes, rotate the rug twice a year, vacuum gently without the beater bar, and deal with spills immediately — blot, never rub. If your rug hasn't been washed in five years or more, it's carrying far more soil than it shows.
